Newbie question

Hello everyone,

My name is Lou and I am a newbie on the IFSJA forum. Actually, I am completely new to Jeeps since this is the first I have owned.

The short story is, I bought this Jeep truck recently and my youngest daughter will start driving it part time this summer. It is actually hers but she has to share with dad.

Anyway, according to the previous owner it is a 73 J10. Anyone in Southeast Arizona will recognize it when I get some pics posted (probably this weekend). I have tried to decode the vin but have not found a site on-line that gave good results.

I do know it has a 360, TH400 and D44s front (closed knuckle) and rear.

Now for the newbie question – How do I tell if it is a J10 (vice J20, J4000, etc)? I am at work right now so I do not have access to the vehicle. I can probably post some more information this evening.

Thanks,
Lou

Welcome aboard. If it's a 73 it won't be a J-10 or J-20. They didn't hit the scene until 74.

Look forward to seeing some pics, and I think your daughter is a lucky girl.

Hello again,

Thanks for the warm welcome and the great information.

I still need to figure out what vehicle we have here.

I decoded the vin and here are the results:
J3 - Jeep 1973
A - Toledo, Hydramatic, LHD
25 - Truck 119" wheelbase
2 - Townside Pickup
W - 5000 GVW
P - V8 - 360 4V

You can see a few pictures here:
http://s696.photobucket.com/albums/vv328/Weeg1964/

Don't let the short bed look fool you, the back has been shortened by about 16".

I know for sure it is a 360 because I found that stamping while looking for a block number. I also know that it has a 2bbl carb.

Someone please tell me what truck we have!!

Thanks,
Lou

First of all welcome for the Tejas side of the fence and a fine looking truck you have there.

And I can see your already one of us from the get-go, with the story you told your wife. Plus your fast on your feet being inspired by the pic of the trucks tailgate (DOG HOUSE)

Good job Lou!

I can think pretty fast on my feet but not quite that fast.

The previous owner has a few dogs that he used to put in there which explains the decals.

It does work out though because he also included a customized cot that fits in the bed. It would be nice to sleep out there this time of year in AZ. Maybe I should buy something for it without permission and test that theory.
