Exclamation ECI 2008 - June 19-22

Here is the definitive ECI thread.

Hosted by the Carolina Full Size Jeep Club

Where: The Uwharrie (pronounced U-R-E) National Forest, Troy, NC
http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreat...rrie/index.htm

When: Thurs. June 19 - Sun. June 22, 2008

Fees: Trail pass, $5 per day per vehicle. A Season Pass is $30. These are National Forest Service Fees, and only required if your taking a vehicle on the trails. Most of us just buy them at "The Outpost", a gas station near the entrance to URE.

Camping: Camping is free at the Badin Lake Group Camp, for Thursday thru Sunday. There will be no group camping on Sunday night. Participants that wish to stay can make arrangements through the reservation center, for the other camping areas.
http://www.recreation.gov/

Primitive (trail or roadside, no convenient facilities) camping is allowed in the forest for free as well. Many folks camp trailside throughout the year.

Who's invited: All of the members of this forum and anyone with a passion for the big daddy of Jeeps!

What to wheel: Most of us have FSJs to wheel, not all of us. You are invited to bring what you have and have fun regardless of what you're driving. We only make fun of the baby Jeeps for a day or so.

And the ricers forever.

What to expect: Good wheeling and lots of laughs...that is if MC shows up again!

Most stock GWs can wheel even the harder trails. Using the by-passes, we have had success getting stock rigs to the playgrounds of rocks.

There are trails for just about every level of wheeler.

Here are a few maps of the area and of the trails that may prove to be useful if you come to the ECI. I suggest printing off one of the trail maps to take with you.

Here is a map I made showing the outpost and group camp. It is much easier to take Mullinix Rd. to the group camp, rather than go through the official entrance as most of those roads are not paved.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?f=s&i...65575&t=h&z=15

Here is a link to the newest URE map. The red roads are the actual trails, and we will be staying at the "Badin Lake Group Campground" (near the top of the map).
http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreat..._trail_map.pdf

Here is the older map, with OHV trails outlining the trails:

Here is an aerial photo of the group camp, it continues well into the treeline. I don't know if this will be useful or not but here it is anyway:

Here is a Panorama I took last year. Use the Camry for reference as it does a complete 360. Click on this thumb to take you to the large picture.

Showers on the left, restrooms (non-running water) on the right.

A view complete opposite from the above one, where most of the CFSJC's will be staying. Also known as Group Camp A.

Here is an image of the campground:

Thanks Tyler!

I have busy as can be lately, with limited net access.

Sorry about the changed dates. Somewhere along the line we missed getting the group camp reserved for the weekend of 5-8 June.
Our biggest goal is to keep this event free to all participants. That way if you can show at the last minute, you won't have to worry about where to camp.

The ECI is on like donkey kong 19-22 June!!!

If you have made plans with work for the 5-7 dates, we'll still go wheeling with you. Just PM someone in the CFSJC and we'll get a plan together for that weekend.

As for the give-away....

We're still working on gathering donations.

However, we can let this tid bit out...

At the very least we will give away a SOA/SF kit, complete with flat top knuckles (milled, drilled and tapped), FREE! to one lucky participant.

There may be some tires given away this year.

I'll post up when I hear something.

You can fall in behind FSJ Nut (Martin) when he goes by Asheville.

Plenty of tent spaces?

How full does the campground get? Will there be plenty of space for our Mid-Atlantic contingent when we roll in thursday evening or should we try to get there early? We pack in tight as anyone who has seen us squeeze into the old Rausch Creek group area can attest.

Plenty of room in the group camp. The reason we had to change the date is because we could only get one of the areas for the original dates.
We have all three camp sites for the nights of 19-20-21.

How many in your group?

We were putting some thought into setting up areas for clubs. The GA folks always camp in the same spot, Carolina in another. We can make sure y'all stay together.

Right now 3 or 4 vehicles, not sure how many people that works out to. Hopefully we'll cajol more people into making the trip by July.

More newb questions

What time (roughly) do the activities usually start on thursday? In other words, what will I miss if I don't get there till 5 or 6 in the evening or so? Would it be better to get there Wednesday evening, or is the site not reserved for Wednesday night? (I think we're looking at a 9 hour drive - at least)

Nothing significant planned for thursday night. I do not think most people will get there until friday, mostly on saturday. And we do not have reservations for wednesday night.

We take over the Badin Lake Group Camp at 11:00hrs on Thursday.

War Wagon will be there by 10:00. It takes him quite a while to set up the three bedroom Jeep tent of his!

I'll be there around noon.
