Replace lower steering column bearing w/o removing column?

My engine is out right now so I have great access to the lower steering column bearing. It’s bad.. at the bearing I can move the shaft side to side quite a bit. Everything I have read in the TSM and on the forums says to replace the bearing I have to completly remove and open up the steering column. Is there anyway to remove and replace that lower bearing without doing that since I have the engine out?

It’s a non tilt column... thanks.

Check the diagram, but if I remember you remove a spring clip that goes around the column at the bottom end and then you can get to the parts to remove and replace. With the engine out you just might do it.

Lower Steering Shaft

You can but have to remove lower steering shaft. Remove the 2 bolts from lower shaft and remove bolts from keyed shaft top and bottom bolts must be removed to move shaft all the way down so you can pop top of shaft off to remove and replace bearing. It is a bit tricky to do but I did mine that way..WD40 ON SPLINES When you put shaft back on splines must line up with key for bolt to go thru .You mite have to shock with big hammer to remove.
