01-09-22....defeated
I feel completely defeated. After much research and emails to Grant, I ordered 2 different kits to install the Grant wheel so I can just get the old girl on the road and inspected by the government. The splines matched up and the turn signal cancel portion was solved. Today I tried to install it. It says that the Part number 4403 install may require the locking nut be installed to push the adapter on. So I lined everything up, started to turn the nut down and then it got tighter and tighter. It was so tight I gave up and decided to take it off and see what was the problem. As you can see from the pic, I am probably a 1/4" from the horn button hitting the back of the adapter. Of course that needs to happen or the horn wont work. So I stop. Take off the nut and see where the threads are starting to get damaged from tightening it down too much.
Now of course, the adapter is on so tight there is no way to get it off without a puller. I doubt a puller will take it off. I ordered one anyway. So I am half on, half off, pissed off, tired...defeated. Jeep for sale by the pound....maybe someone with a big boat can use it for an anchor.

So the 3196 kit didn't fit either? Mine is a 77 and the inside of my column looks different than yours. But that is probably just because mine is tilt

You are doing some great work and keep me inspired for working on my wagoneers. When things are good, they are great. I drive it to work and people enjoy it or try to buy it. When things are bad and get worse, shove the stupid thing off a cliff and buy a 1500 dollar Honda that will last for years without touching it. At the end of the day I'm happy my newest vehicle is 40 years old and darn proud of it

Yes, I got everything working except the turn signal cancel and I just got the new harness and will be doing it this weekend.
All turn, tail and brake lights are now led. The headlights are bright white Silver stars. I have good luck with those in the past.
When I finish up the rear window motor, I will wire the plate light but I dont need it to pass inspection for plates.

Thank you for the vote on confidence. I needed that. Today was a mess of crazy things again. I need a win. Something can "shirley" get fixed......at least I haven't lost my sense of humor.

Today was just an easy day of getting some small things accomplished since many other of the projects are a train wreck.
I decided to install the new turn sign front lights just because....
Can anyone make this an avatar for me ?
Also decided to rust encapsulate the inside of the doors and behind the door skins. Then added the Dynamat to sound deaden as much as possible. The back side of the ABS skin also has a layer of Dynamat on it. These panels aren't done as they will be the same brown distressed redneck leather as the seats to match. But I wanted to put them on just to have them on.
I found some nice edge trim that will be added to all of the door panels after the redneck leather is installed.

Today's update. The NEW turn signal doesn't always work. If you move it just to the perfect location, it works. Bump it slightly, it doesn't. Time to buy another one, tear down the steering column again and do it again......
On a good note, we got the front switch and rear switch to work with the rear window now. It is all wired and checked. No more old wires and crazy wiring. New relays with new wires to both switches and new window motor.
