New Gladiator?

I thought the new Jeep Gladiator was dead, but while looking at a Wrangler Unlimited this past weekend the salesman told me he understood that Jeep was going to produce the new Gladiator. Has anybody else heard this?

One of the 4by rags hinted at it. They said the new owners gave the greenlight to a previously killed-off concept or two. The Gladiator should be one as it seems to be the most popular.

Last I'd heard, they were supposed to be manufactured by American Expedition Vehicles. They're offering a conversion kit to make it yourself now. Still a sweet looking truck:

The pic is a Brute...it was meant to be, and has always been a Brute.

When Chrysler was under DC the Gladiator got the axe, but now that they're under Cerebus who knows what they're planning.

Gotta agree with the Gladiator concept not even remotely resembling the original though, but its still cooooooooooool.

I don't believe I would trust ANYTHING that a jeep salesman said.

There are lots of concepts built, and even wrapped with black panels to hide/protect during driving. Paparazzi take pictures, call them spot shots and they get credit for the unveiling...lol look up how many jeep concepts were built, and compare to actual production vehicles.

Wait for official annoucements from the Manufacturer. Everything else is just speculation.

x2 cubed! or any other auto salesman.

chryco killed ANY truck idea to preserve their own trucks little market share!

new owners may have some ideas, but I doubt you'll EVER see anythin approaching a fullsized vehicle from them. the market, environmental, regulatory and production costs would make it prohibitive for what has to be a barebones-funded specialty operation. In spite of the mestique and heritage of the marque I'll be very surprised to see it around five years hence

Gladiator

Attachment 7133

Took this pic at Chrysler HQ in August. Tech guy seemed to be 75 yes /25 no on it coming out.

The one disappointing thing was there is an indent in the bed where the spare tire goes. No problem, but they put a matching indent on the passenger side thus losing some valuable bed space.

But that is nitpicking. The thing was cool as heck...

Yep, two different trucks right there. The gladiator's got a bit to much plastic on the outside for my taste, but I'd pick one up if I felt like car payments again....You could probably build the brute for 1/3 the cost of a new ride, and have a far more useful vehicle.

looking at the link to the larger version of the glad pic. still looks too street-trick for my taste, just a dolled up toy truck--kind of a corporate marketing dept version of pimpmyride. JMHO obviously

that said what is the gizmo on the exterior of the windshield right under the driverside wiper blade?

If it looked like the concept and had a diesel with a 6 speed I would almost consider getting a second job to afford one.

With the size of the new JK unlimited frame & its 116" wheelbase ( 7" longer than a waggy) I'd say the Gladiator is easily doable on that platform. And that Gladiator body in the comparison pic above is obviously a JK, now that the JK's are out.

I wonder what the new ownership arrangement will do to the availability of the 3.0L v6 diesel? I think they are all auto's in the Grand Cherokee, though.

Dodge will have a 4.4L(?) v6 cummins diesel for its trucks in a year or two. That may be a viable option.

So, if they have a concept getting the green light, my money is on the Gladiator over the Rescue or the Hurricane. Jeep could do far worse than a rebodied Power Wagon in its stable, as well.

If they were giving away Brutes with a hemi swap, I sure wouldn't turn one down.
