Dana 20 transfer case behind Cummins diesel

I'm collecting parts for converting my 73 j4000 to 12 valve Cummins with nv4500 transmission.
Also going with dana 60 front and dana 70 rear axle.

Have most of the necessary parts
But now is my question ,is it wise to use the Dana 20 transfer case with this build?
The j4000 was my daily work truck for 13 years with 360 converted to LPG ,T15 with 20 transfer case.
It's going to be the daily work truck again after the conversion and overhaul.

The 12 valve Cummins engine is still a low miles stock engine , Probably want to upgrade a couple parts , but nothing crazy because want to keep it dependable!

Like to hear your ideas about this!
Cheers
Mees

It will not last, way to much torque from the Cummins, really should look for a heavier duty transfer case.

Why would you spend money bolting a D20 to a NV4500? Plenty of transfer cases at junkyards that will bolt to a NV4500 that are stronger.

Well I have a couple of D20 laying around.
And over here in Holland there are not so much of heavy truck parts to find on junkyards.

So what is a good one to use?
It needs to be with a passenger side front output for the Dana 60 front axle.

Could a Dana 300 be a option?
Have also one of that in the barn.

The transfer case that originally came with your NV4500 could be a good candidate, if the output is on the right side.

There was no transfer case included with the transmission.

My take is run it if you can get it adapted reasonably enough. You have a spare once you know its limits, I run one behind a very healthy 1969 GTO 400 engine for near 20 years, T-case was never an issue and I cut it no slack, truck pulls, mud bogs, lots of wheelin, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Anyone experience with a np205 ?
They also came in the dodge and Chevrolet trucks

205 is a great T-case, bullit proof and easy to put behind a NV4500. On that 4500, do something real with the 5th gear issue and use the right oil.

It's a complete new transmission with all the latest updates from Allstate gear.
So I expect and hoped that is also done!

The adapter required to bolt a Dana 20 to a NV4500 is expensive and still requires you to chop a good portion of the transmission's tailshaft off and use a "spud" shaft or "power sleeve". I'm doing this same swap. Just find an NP205 and be done with it.

Yes I did came to the conclusion that going for a np205 is the better option.
So started looking for one over here (probably going to get one from the US , because in Holland there is only junk or they don't know what they have and asking to much.

Thanks for all your input about this!
Cheers
