TFI upgrade question

on the tfi upgrade you still use the stock control box unlike the hei correct? Also if thats the case then if i just went out and grabed something like a msd 50k coil and gapped my plugs bigger for the bigger wouldnt that basiclly be the same thing or am i missing something?

You COULD just upgrade your coil, but probably wouldn't see much benefit from only doing that. The greater spark would be nice, but using the larger distributor cap is what really helps. Just my .02

You can use what ever coil you like, but definitly upgrade your cap, rotor and wires.

yep...some write-ups state that you need a resistor wire; your '91 doesn't require one.

Here is the parts list I used when doing my TFI upgrade on a '90.

-Baybilly Racing Products aluminum coil bracket
-MSD Blaster 2 TFI Coil.
MSD part # 8227
$33.28 shipped (eBay)
-MSD Cap-A-Dapt Cap & Rotor kit.
MSD part # 8414. $30.88

-MSD Super Conductor Spark Plug Wires
MSD part # 35859. $72.88

-(8) NGK GR4 Spark Plugs @ Gap .045
part # 2635. $1.77 each

-TFI Coil-Wire Plug. NAPA Echlin part # ICC1. $13.07
-(4) #10-24x1 1/2” Socket Head Allen Screws
@ $.15 each

-(4) 3/16” Lock Washers
@ $.04 each

-(4) 3/16” Fender Washers
@ $.09 each

-(4) 3/16” Nuts (same as #10-24)
@ $.05 each

-(1)3/8”x3/4” Allen Socket Cap Screw-Coarse
(for mounting the 3/8” aluminum Baybilly coil bracket)
@$.29
*I used the factory washer for mounting the coil bracket
