My 78 works perfect 100% of the time. I do think it is kinda of a pain to have the keys every time you want to roll it down. Anybody run a hot switch to the back so keys are not needed?

Not sure about the older ones, but the 86-91's have a switch right on the dash. So you don't need a key.

Oh yeah, I still have to do that too. Guess it would be kinda nice to just run that dash switch to be on all the time. Though I always either have the Jeep locked or have it running so I have to use the keys to get into it anyway.

Mine works great, but I'm worried about the wires that go from the gate to the body. Does anybody know where to find a new sleeve for those wires?

Don't know where you can find a new sleeve, but I just wrapped them really well with electrical tape in that area on my 90. They weren't chafed through, but I had the same concern.

Mine has a momentary contact toggle in the back right about the interior panel on the drivers side. When it works, I usually roll it down 6-8" from the dash, then use the back switch to raise and lower it the rest of the way, that way I can help it along if needed. It was there when I bought the truck, so I don't know how it was hacked, but it does work.

74 is flawless..... knock on tailgate.... the OE channel busted last spring... but it was still working for Moab... a bit cockeyed.....fixed now.... a few years ago.... the (+) wire was totally oxidized (green powder)replaced the bullet plug... and of course 20 years ago the safety switch was discarded....

on the other hand the 85 opens from inside switch, but outside switch only for closing the window.....

At the risk of cursing myself, mine works from the dash and the rear lock.

Get underneath and unplug all the wires and slip a piece of heavy shrink tubing over it. Working from underneath was much easier than disconnecting everything inside the tailgate.

Oh, my window works perfectly...as long as I plug it into an external power source.

Works fine, from both the key switch and the in cab. All the window motors work, but the tapey things that raise them have broken in 2 of the doors.

Okay, I voted yes, but maybe I should clarify. My 90 works great. My 85 needs a helping hand DOWN but up works like a rocket. Go figure!

Of course, much like Strider, now I just cursed myself...

Perfect until below 32 degrees, then no. It doesn't get cold enough here to troubleshoot it.

My 77 has always worked fine. In about 79 I added a rear inside switch to operate the window when I slept in the back camping. In 1985 I replaced the wipes and touched up the defrost grid. I never had the rear switch cover modified for the safety recall. If the key is left in the switch, the cover can activate the switch closing the window on someone or something.
