Wtf...hood gap!

Try as I might I can't get my hood gap any tighter than in the pics. I've bottomed out the brackets...anything else to look for?

My last one had that - bottomed it out and still had it.

Seems super common for some reason - pretty much 1/2 of the SJs I see have that. Would love to know the cure!

mine has similar problem

I have been told it is the worn/tired hood hinges themselves
that cause the problem.

I bought a pair of NOS hinges but have never installed

I've owned a lot of these things and panel fit/alignment is poor on just about all of them.
Where the hinges bolt to the firewall is adjustable as well. You can try loosening those and dropping it down a little.

I wonder if the alignment issue is in the front and that's keeping the hinges from articulating all the way down.

Sometimes can be dry, binding pivot points on the hinges. Might have to extend the slots for the bolts so you can set the hinge further down.

I bottomed out on the firewall as well. Before I extend the slots I think I will just take the brackets off and set the hood down and see if the allignment isn't hanging up on something else

It is also VERY common for the rear support to bend away from the hood.
Lack of lube/sticky hinge = tweaked.

The '73 hood on my '88 was like that I had to be VERY mean to it
