Happened across a pair of CJ10As, I would love those rear axles...

Was driving around recently and happened across these 2 dudes hanging out in the salty windy air. I had never seen such a creature so I stopped and checked them out.

They look to have been sitting for AT LEAST a decade. Both are pretty much complete but extremely rusty. I do not believe they are restorable or valuable but I started doing some research on them and they apear to be CJ10As. They have a Dana 70 in the back, Nissan SD33 engines, TF727 to a NP205 (but are 2WD). I guess they have the same wheel base as a CJ5 and it is possible to put a CJ-5 tub on the chassis and supposedly REALLY easy to convert them to 4WD.

Yeah, kinda scarce in the civilian world but have a following. Idunno why I think they're ugly.

Seems to me they're turbo'd but don't have the some of the turbo internals like piston cooling jets. Unless I got it backerds and they have the T/C'd internals but no T/C?

Supposedly have about 800 pounds of steel ballast. I've read that the transfer cases are intact but locked in low and I've read that they don't have all the internal parts.

I've wondered what the wheel spacing is on those rear ends.

I'm with you! These are UGLY! I only really noticed them because I recognized the doors as I drove by. Then I noticed the CJ looking hood.

I wonder if you could swap a whole CJ5/7 front clip on one? Maybe if it had a CJ5 front clip and cool little pickup bed in the back? Then again, the rear axle would be in an odd spot. Hm.

I think they are no turbo. I didn't look close but this is one of their engines. I don't see anywhere a turbo would/could be.

Looks like an airport or warehouse is rolling their old tugs out to pasture...always have to do a double take when you see them.

I think you are right that they are normally aspirated. Stuck in low range all the time and operated on pavement, they need that 70 to keep from breaking the axle. Looks like a CJ cowl and hood, the CJ fenders and grille should kinda fit.

Jeep sold a bunch of them as regular trucks in Australia. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=australian+CJ-10 - only tugs in the USA, AFAIK.
