But being elbow deep in petroleum, glyocol, and harsh solvents every day for the better part of almost 15 years has permanently damaged the skin on my hands. Been trying to take a little better care of myself lately with my joints, back, and hearing going now, too. Doc wasn't happy with me at my last annual check up.

Same here. We recently got a new formula for JP5 and the old stuff never used to bother me but this new stuff burns me pretty bad. I used to have skin like leather. Now it's more like 30 year old Grand Wagoneer leather. All dried up and cracked. I guess it makes sense as I'm the same age as some of the Grand Wags.
I use this stuff and it works really well.

One of my old salty Chiefs got me onto it. Said he was just like me back in his day but all the chemicals just destroyed his skin over time.
This is the color I'll be using for the case. Plain old Ford Grey. The covers will be plain gloss black.

And this is as far as I got yesterday. I had some other things I had to take care of with selling our house. I got the front output assembly assembled and the end play all within spec.

I have my assembly lube in the freezer right now to get extra tacky so I can assemble the intermediate assembly and all of its needle bearings tomorrow.

Yesterday I got the new intermediate shaft, all 48 new needle bearings, and intermediate gear set installed with the new thrust washers.

Then I got the rear output end play set up with .002" of end play. Getting that done without any sort of bench vise was a challenge, let me tell ya.

Hopefully my output shaft e-brake come back from Herm this week so I can get it painted up and installed.

            More progress today.

Oh yea! It has literally been everywhere with me and I've probably put close to 100,000 miles on it since I bought it from you a smidgen over 9 years ago! It's been driven coast to coast and my daily driver on and off for the majority of the time I've owned it. It was even in Kelly and I's wedding! It's definitely had a hard life but I'm hoping with some upcoming shore duty, and a little extra cash I saved up from this last deployment, it should get a lot of attention that it needs/deserves.

It's got a B&M or Transgo (I forget) kit in it now. I remember changing something with the governor but can't remember what. That was probably 8 years ago or so.

Herm's rebuilt e-brake assembly made it today. Nice work this guy does. You send him your old unit and a check for $75 plus $16 shipping and he sends you back a unit that he already has done up from his stash. Real quick turnaround and for a decent enough price. He replaces all the springs/hardware, re-lines the shoes, machines the drum, then he re-archs the shoes and adjusts them so the have 100% shoe/drum contact when applied. Everything is painted up real nice, lubed, and ready for install.

I really need to get my work bench cleared off so I can get this thing off my cherry picker and back on a stable work surface

There is an auto hobby shop on base here but it's only open limited hours on Friday and Saturday by appointment only due to budget cuts. That just doesn't fit into my schedule so they won't be getting my business. They could close the whole thing down for all I care. It's so underfunded and over regulated that it isn't worth utilizing.
Thanks for the compliment on the t-case. I'm a bit OCD at times. I know it is going under the vehicle. I know it is going to get oil and mud caked all over it. But I still want it to look brand new when I install it haha.
As for the Holley intake, no responses yet. Most of the research I've done says that it isn't much better than a stock intake. I'm still on the fence about it. I'll either use it or keep keep my cast iron 4 bbl intake I have now. This budget build is so budget that I'm not going to shell out money for a new intake when I have two on hand haha.

Too bad you are not coming down to Point Mugu (vice Lemoore). Their AHS is LEGIT! Aside from the normal AHS tools, they have a paint booth, tire mount/balance machines, sand blaster, hot tank, a lathe, a mill, etc.

I would think the Holley intake would at least be lighter and would make it worth dropping in.

Lemoore's hobby shop is pretty decent, too. But, it is also on semi-limited hours. I will be utilizing theirs a bit as we will be living in on-base housing vise having our own place and on-base housing has a strict "No automotive work" policy on their property.

I wanted new lock washers on the front output yoke bolts but you can't get the bolts out with the dust shield on! So very gently and evenly I lightly tapped the dust shield off. I decided I may as well dress it up, too, if I'm this far into it.

I also added some 12pt aircraft grade alloy bolts and lock washers for strength.
