Hey, turn the volumn down. I know that Run DMC was rocking your world, might try Classical Strings for a while

Alas, not a single axle shaft in sight...

I got lucky. two years ago my '88 Gee-Dubs's left rear axle started to pull out just as I turned into a gas station. I heard a strange and horrible noise that told me I'd better pull into a spot I knew I could be towed from.

I looked underneath from the rear and sure enough, I saw the brake drum about 2 inches further out than it should be and I could see half the brake pad.

Took a couple weeks to locate a replacement axle.

mine was real uneventful actually. a clunk, the rear lowered and the wheel passed me. didn't touch the body on the way out,but almost scribbled down the side as it passed. i was more concerned about the wheel hitting something. it steered fine even. stock springs, tire size.

it crawled up onto the trailer even.

the drum was hot when i put gas just shortly before it went. i figured a spring let go on the brake shoes and they were laying against the drum, the heat was more to the outside diameter of the drum. was going to open it up when i got home. guess i got a close look sooner.

maccj5,lemme see what taz turns up as he's close to me,otherwise i'll get back to you, thanks for the heads up.
