went on a hot air baloon ride - very cool

went on a early morning flight - it was as if in dream.... very slowly lifting off and floating almost without any sense of velocity, hovering over the landscape. It was like a nice dream where you are floating over people and there is no noise and barely a sense of movement,

pinpoint accuracy and a very gentle landing - I highly recommend it ( its a bit pricey) but a once in a lifetime experience.
the pilot said he does this all around the country, so if you are in a high wind /breeze area, it can be more "exciting" but its way safer than being on a plane or car for sure

went horseback riding yesterday and a big party after.....I may call in sick tomorrow - i'm so freaking tired and burned out

they do hot air by me. last summer they were going over my yard and my kids were waving. he tried to land in my yard but was moving too fast, did a light bounce and back up. it was quite the big deal to the kids.

looked like a cool ride to try.

how much?

175 Per person... but well worth the cost, if you have kids - you can partially "part them out" you can get 10K easy for a kidney.......

That's so cool! Any pics? I've been to the Havasu balloon festival a few times but haven't taken a ride (or been taken for a ride) in one yet. It was so amazing waking up to this, though. You're right, there's something really dream-like about it; watching them glide effortlessly with only that characteristic soft sound of the flamethrowers bursting occasionally.

After seeing one land on a powerline in Woodinville a few years ago, I'll never get my wife up in one!

Went on one in Taos last fall. Very surreal as described above. Quite pricey, but well worth it for a once in a life time experience. I recommend it to anyone who has parachuted, a totally different experience. I got motion sick on the parachute, but not in the balloon. We touched down in the Rio Grande River in front of some fly fishermen, just to say hello, then took off again to the landing spot. I don't think the fishermen enjoyed it as much as we did.

I used to crew for these things as a kid. Did the festivals in Fresno, Truckee, and Coalinga, CA.
My first job was pulling the inflation fan away when the burners where lit and the balloon (the "envelope") was lifted into place. Then I was promoted to holding the mouth of the envelope open during inflation. At thirteen, I weighed enough to hold down the "crown line", which is a lengthy piece of rope anchored to the crown of the envelope, and tied off to a wicker ring at the other end. When the burners start heating up the envelope air, my job was to lean back with my weight, and steady the envelop as it was uprighted. Otherwise, it would flop all over the place. That's a bad scene for something that's five stories tall.
I've been a mile up in one of those things. It's ... Interesting, to say the least. The only thing between me and a mile of air was one inch of wicker flooring.
Surprisingly, there were never any accidents with the squad I flew with (194th aerostat, out of Morgan Hill, CA), considering they were a bunch of lovable drunks. They did love their post-flight champagne.

They have the big Fiesta in Alb. every fall it is a big tourist attraction, but a bit of a pain if your trying to get to a job in the area. You do learn how to get to work through some interesting routes to avoid the traffic jams.

They do them in Albany, OR as part of the art and air festival they have.

Worked a chase crew once, what a job getting it loaded up and back out.
