Tailgate Key Switch Removal for new Woodgrain

How do I remove the key switch so I can lay down the woodgrain and then cut it. I tried knocking out the security pin in the middle of the 2 screws but couldn't do it. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

There's a tool for that. Harbor Freight, Autozone, etc.....carries the tool. I have 2 or 3 of them here in the garage.

That "pin" is not a pin, it is part of the fastener. There is a bit called a "Tamper Proof Torx" bit that you will need to remove the fasteners.

Hopefully your key switch is now off and woodgrain ready? /installed?
There is a good U Tube video under Installing GW woodgrain. Shows dry technique & worked well on my '85 two weeks ago.
You could actually install without key removal by trimming around key bezel but not so "professional".
Video used TGW vinyl but I like Metro's 3M product better.
Good luck with your install.

Do you have a link to the 3M product? Is it pre-cut to fit a GW or cut-it-yourself deal? I couldn't find anything like it. TIA

Go to wwwMetrorestyling.com
use upper right bar - search store-Put in -vinyl wood . should come up w selections
comes in sheets, but they have a 15" width as long as you need. I figured 35' for a complete GW. 15" is a correct width for the side panels.
they have a red teak, but not red oak. Also have marine teak.
Order samples first as Team GW,metro,& others all look different.
Likes Metro because looked more like wood with a satin finish whereas TGW has a shiny printed look.
Cost for precut sets almost double!
Lastly, get 3M dinoc. My off brand has faded badly in 5 yr.
