NO, it's true! and the Ford 304 is a de-stroked Ford 360. And the Ford 360 is actually a Mopar motor. Really - all true!

Yes yes, AMC never designed their own engines. They bought the 232-258 design from ford (my parts manager is sure of this.. ) and rambler copied chevrolets 327 in 1957 which chevy didnt put out till the 60s.

Yup, AMC never made anything on their own..... .....I love when poeple try to tell me false garbage about AMC's and then i make them look dumb..

he's usually a funny guy but now he's gone too far.. he keeps saying ( sarcastically) hey fellas did you check out George's Babe magnet???

I told him keep it up and that magnet will drive over his piece of crap concord and flatten just the drivers side...

He laughs and walks off... i think he knows I'm serious since I told the President of the company off and kept my job....

Don't laugh too loud, I was at the Jeep dealer today ordering something for my '89 Waggie. He asked "4.0 litre"? I said "No, 360. AMC 360" and the guy beside him said "Are you sure it's not a Ford 360? Jeep used some of their V6's" I told him no, I was sure it was an AMC 360

tell em its a '49 oldsmobile engine.amc bought up all the excess production and used them all the way up to 1991. had em sitting in a warehouse in toledo.they were supposed to go into military vehicles but the contract fell through when ho chi minh invaded east pakistan.idiots will swallow that one easier than the truth.

I recently went to the parts counter at the stealership looking for something for a 360, I said it was the same 360 they put in the GWs and the Cherokees. This really confused the parts guy so he consulted with a mechanic. The mechanic asked me if I was talking about the same year cherokees with the 2.8 v6....

The best one I ever heard was the AMC 360 was a ford block with dodge heads and a buick timing cover. This guy said he had a "76" javelin and thats how he built his 600hp engine.

Around here people swear that AMC and Dodge 360's are the same, but they can't explain why the distributors are in different places.

Well see, AMC didn't tighten them down right, so they tended to move around a bit.

Around here it's just the usuall, AMC 360 is really a Dodge 360. They swear by that and won't listen to reason.

Come on everyone knows all you need know can be found by looking at the Dizzy all AMC'/Jeeps used GM engines up to 74 (Delco Dizzy) then they used some weird make engine (must be french) for 75 and 76 (prestolight Dizzy's) then they used Ford engines untill the end of production of the V8 FSJ's

you gotta realize that anyone who was working a parts counter when Jeep was a real "name" in its own right and not just a subdivision of whatever Chryco is this week have long retired. Most of those parts counter guys working now barely know that there were cars built without emissions crappe on 'em.
