electronic ignition conversion question

Anyone out there had any experience with the Pertroxix kits or the Mallory Unilite? I noticed that Pertronix makes 3 different ones (1,2 and3). I had a Mallory dist. im my pro street Chevy and it worked pretty good. I'm just not too familiar with the Pertronix stuff. Thanks for your input.

From what I gather the Pertronix unit just replaces the points, since you have a Delco Dizzy, and there were about a zillon more Chev's built than Jeeps, you might want to find a Chevy fourm, sure there would be many more with that exact setup than here.

IIRC the UniLite is an IR emitter/reciever that you put in place of the points.

The Pertronix units are a reliable user friendly option for folks that can't or won't deal with points ignitions. The Mallory unit is more for the performance crowd. The Pertronix units are reliable and well proven, they even make'm for old MB's. For my tastes I'd go HEI but between your two options I'd go Pertronix for a daily driver.

I've had a Pertonix module in my original dist'r for about 3yrs now and I would highly recommend the upgrade.

While I had the dist'r out, I found the roll pin holding the gear on to be worn and loose--which may have contributed to an erratic idle. Either way, it starts fine and runs better than ever.

Ok, thanks for the info guys. Like I said, I've used Mallory stuff before with good results but (as I'm new to FSJ's) I really didn't know much about the Pertronix kit. I'll give it a try.

Ive used the factory (ok, rebuilt) Motorcraft dizzy hooked to a MSD 6AL box.

Got this setup in the AMX now.

The M-craft triggers are generally good.

Used one for 80kmiles / 10 years, worked really well... then slowly died on my way back from Moab.... the engine died in the driveway!
