Ran across pic of my '74 from back in '89..

Everyone likes pics. Here's one I found digging through photo's from the 80's. My '74 w/401 @.030/over, Isky cam, stock 4-bbl man, Carter AFB (could always tune these just right), Headers, MM part-time conversion, etc.

Finally gave up on an elk hunt in eastern Colorado with 374K miles on it...

Do you still have it? Can you elaborate a little on its condition.

Nope, parted out when it finally gave in years ago on an elk hunt trip. Then built the '87 up. One I took to the first Ouray Invasion back in 2000-something.

Still have a few parts from it though..

Looks really good. I still have my 75 out back. Don't know weather to sell it or get it back on the road.

I vote for choice C: get it back on the road, THEN sell it.

Yes, but my response is more devilish than that.

See... I know when he gets it running/driving again, he will remember why he kept it, how fun it is, etc. then decide NOT to sell it. But if he has the motivation to "sell" it at the very beginning, it will motivate him to work on it sooner...

Photo reminds me of the *feel* of some of the old promo pictures of Jeeps in their day (60s/70s/80s)....Jeeps in a natural setting with no real fake stuff, but still in a very pristine situation.

Oldest photos I probably have of any of my Jeeps would be the '77 Cherry that I would have taken around '93-ish. Not as nice as yours above, but oldest I'd have.

Thanks for sharing. Do you have any other old pics?

Tons! I'll dig some out. That one was in front of our hunting cabin in the Sierra's (no longer in family). Spent much time there working on that wagon.

As promised, a few more odds/ends pics from years back:

Elk hunting in the Flat Tops, Colorado, early 1990's.

Antelope hunt, eastern plains, Colorado, late 1980's

Chev 350 conversion in '55 (early 1990's)

Annette (girlfriend, later fiance', later killed in car accident on I-25, Colorado), myself and mom, heading back to Colorado from California. Early 1990's.

Thanks Tom! I never get sick of seeing good SJ pics! Yours have a nice qualitative human touch to them. Very much enjoy them. Thanks for sharing.

My first 401 was in a 76 Waggy I bought in 80. It did a lot of beach time and is gone to the rust mites now.

Mine too, was a 401. After a .030 over, it was on the edge of overheating until a custom 4-row rad was installed.

Mine also went to the rust Gods. Had I known how much it did for me..., I'd have done what I could to keep it up. Hindsight. At least I've kept the '87 pristine and rust-free.

The turbine wheels on the 76 are impossible to find. Know who made them? American Racing?

I remember those wheels! Never could find a set, even back then.

Heavy_metal_thunder_81 has a set on his Golden Eagle and they are AMAZING the way he had them painted/polished. I love turbine wheels....
