Now in having an idle issue with the TBI... Was great on the old motor... It likes to stall when you pop it in neutral and back off the gas when you come to a light... But it starts right back up and idles perfectly fine... I need to mess around with my idle VE and maybe throttle follower settings...

It's been a while since my last posts so here's an update...
I enabled the throttle kicker logic and disabled the error code and added about 10% to the idle VE table and no more issues!
I have 500 miles on the motor now, already had its first oil change 300 miles ago...

First and second gear are real hairy on wet/slick roads even with 3.73's and 37"s but will break them loose with ease... Sooo much more low end grunt then the 360/k8600... Pulling 7500 lbs is nothing to it now....

Now it's time for a 5 speed...

The 406 runs awesome with the 5 speed. running at 70 mph on the highway is about 2200 rpm and never need to shift it.
I actually have swapped in an NV4500 in early February 2016 but didnt do a build or swap thread on it since it was covered so many times on many forums.

Its from a '95 GM 1 ton and needed a complete rebuild and was 2wd.
It needed a new input shaft, countershaft gear, and 2nd and 3rd gears had small chips... I put in a dodge 29 spline 4wd mainshaft, new GM input shaft, new 1 piece dodge diesel countershaft, new 2nd, 3rd, and 5th gears, all new bearings, syncros, seals, shift forks, the works. Almost everything in it is new except the top cover and parts, reverse idler, 1st gear, and the syncro hubs. Even put on a new cast iron dodge tailhousing.

I bought the advance adapters bell housing adapter to my AMC 406 and the 29 spline input gear adapter for my ford NP205. And I even re-geared my D60HP and 14B to 4.56's at the same time.

But now I am wanting to sell the 406 and swap in a 6.5 NA diesel, specifically from a 2001+ HMMWV...

406

Just out of curiosity, what was it that you did not like about the 406 that the Diesel would fix? How did it run in the FSJ?
