what distributor for TBI setup.
What kind of distributor are you guys running with a gm tbi setup? Im looking at going with a fuel and computer controlled timing setup for my tbi. Using a TFI coil and a 8 pin gm ignition module. Can a stock amc v8 distributor be modified to work with this setup? Would locking down the vacuum advance be enough or does more need to be done for it to work correctly?

You can use the Motocraft pickup to trigger the GM module, the wave forms from both the GM and Ford unit look ~ the same, lock down the mechanical (Centrifical) advance, as well as the vacumn advance and it should work fine. Remember the GM module will need a good heat sink where ever you decide to mount it.

Ditto -- Motocraft works fine.

I have a few links on my TBI conversion page: http://www.grimmjeeper.com/tbi/
I'm using a modified GM HEI from a TBI engine on the 360 in my Cherokee. It's using the integrated TBI 7 pin module.
For the 401 going into my CJ, I'm using an MSD distributor linked to an 8 pin module that would go in a small cap HEI. That module will be remotely mounted. I locked down the mechanical advance and removed the vacuum advance for that distributor. There's no reason that I couldn't have used a stock Motorcraft distributor. Though I'd want a TFI cap change to handle the bump in voltage from the new coil.

I'll second (or third...) the motorcraft. It works fine once the centrifugal and vacuum advance are disabled.

Sounds like i need to just lock down the vacuum and mechanical advance then. Does anyone have a link to a good writeup on how to do it on the motocraft distributor. Thanks for the fast responses.

Didn't I already answer this question?

But the fastest way if you have a mig.. pop the cap and rotor, use the mig to put a small spot weld right in the top center of the shaft where the little clip retains the advance shaft. There may be a piece if felt in there that needs to be removed first.
Then disconnect the vacuum hose.
Done...
If no welder...some disassembly required. See link in sig.
