QT Chain Replacement - Advice?
I am venturing into uncharted territory and have been reading the TSM and multiple web sites about the QT. I have a few questions for you QT gurus.
This is a 77 Cherokee, 100k miles, 401. It appears the case has been apart (sloppy reseal) but the chain has so much slop I drive it very gingerly if at all. There is an occasional pop or binding sound when backing or turning but not often. The E-drive and low range work well and there are no leaks. It's a real nice Cherokee overall and seems to have been well cared for.
But I know I need a chain.
1 - can this be done with the case on the vehicle?
2 - what else should be routinely replaced?
3 - are there step by step instructions for chain replacement?
(I haven't found any yet)
4 - what is the purpose of the overdrive chain?
If any of you have been through this and have pointers or cautions, please let me know. Thanks!
