Question

-How far back does this Ouray FSJ gathering go?
-Where does it get its roots from?
-Why Ouray, CO?
-Is there any videos in production from past FSJ Ouray gatherings that can be acquired?

I have been browsing the pics and post in this forum all morning long. It is by far one of the most beautiful places I have seen next to the MOAB at 5 am sunrise and the Mountains in WA State in the Winter...I would love to goto Ouray someday! Thanks for any info...

AFAIK, last year was the first official year. Since the CFSJA was organizing the event, Ouray was a logical choice along with the fact that it's known as the Jeep capital of the world. While not centrally located geographically, it's as close as you can get to some of the most beautiful wheeling country that can be enjoyed by stock and modified vehicles alike. There are definitely lots of pictures around as you have found, but I am unaware of any videos that are widely available.

Next year Michael and I plan on going again, and hopefully there will be many more. Come on along!!

Don S. has a production video (trail guide) that he use to sell, dunno if he still does. Also, there is a IFSJA member that was compiling pictures and video of last years event onto a DVD. Haven't heard what's up with that but I can find his e-mail if you're interested.

Last year was the official, 40th year anniversary of the FSJ and we gathered in Ouray. This year is not official but should be good nonetheless.

Jesse is the man that was working on a video production of some kind: j2sax@cs.com
I'm not sure if he completed the project or not...

The Ouray event idea got started back in 97 I think. All kinds of ideas went around. I believe the CFSJA list started in 98 and they kind of picked up the ball and ran with it. Michael Shimniok (Denver) stepped up to be the leader at some point. Krista and I started to help in the organization in 2000 and it was quite the challenge since we were so spread out. We had recon trips to Ouray on Labor Day weekend in 99, 00 and 01. There should be links to reports for these from the CFSJA site. Yep, go to the site and click on "On The Trail" link. http://www.cfsja.org

There just may be an unofficial gathering there every summer until we run out of parts to keep these beasts running. It would be nice to have a 50 year anniversary event in 2012.

I know their's an unoficial one every year, or at least so far there has been... Does anybody think a 5 year "Official" run would be good, or just every 10 years???

Anyone can make it official...they just have to work on onganizing it!

The history Flint gave is true AFAIK.

I remeber buying my first Wag way back when (98?) and hearing about Ouray 2003 for the 40th Anniversary. Though to myself...that would be neat. Anyhow.....June 2002 came around real fast and I had to get ready in a hurry but I made it.

As we can see from the new FSJ jamborees and the such it started something..... =)
