6.5 TD J10 swap help!

I apologize in advance if this has already been covered, but the search engine on this site sucks!! Anyways, just as the title states, I'm swapping a 6.5 TD into my J10. Maybe I'm way over thinking this, but I'm having a hard time finding a radiator that will fit/work. Also, clearance from the turbo to the heater box is a nightmare. Is there anyone who's done this swap that can chime in and give me some advice?? What rad is best to work with, and what mods were done to make the heater box fit?

You can trom a little off the heater box, but not much. Google old air, or vintage air. They have a replacement ac and heat unit that can replace the heater and ac system with a single unit that does both, and completly eliminates the heater box in the engine bay. Its about $1200-1500 for a whole system, but if u have a good compressor and condensor, you can get the in cab part for ~$600.

Vinatge Air is the name of the company. I think BJ's has started carrying their stuff. There are also plenty of conversion radiators out there, too

Factory turbo location on a 6.5 = removal of stock heater box. You *may* be able to hack enough away to fit, but IMHO going to an aftermarket unit will be a better option.

As for the radiator...what year is your 6.5? Is it the pre-97 with single t-stat or the 97-later dual t-stat setup? If earlier, just use a GM engine swap radiator and that will get your inlet/outlet on the correct sides. I had the 97-later dual setup and it creates some interesting hose routing so I had to have a 45 degree bend added to my inlet to get the hose around my alternator.

I am running an NA 6.5 in my '74 now... I bought a universal rad from summit with the GM inlet and outlet and will tig weld the mounts from my old aluminum rad to the new one when I get it... I think it was $156 to my door... I have a swap thread here in the diesel swaps page somewhere...

not sure if I want to turbo it or not... or supercharge it... $4000 is a lot for a SC kit...

I just realized this thread is 14 months old... What did you finally decide to do?
