Need a good 727

My second owner 83 Cherokee Laredo just rolled over 1016 thousand on the original(?) 360, 727. with Selectrac;
The transmission is pretty tired and prone to slippage. Should I rebuild the original or just do a good working complete transmission swap?
How much can I do a overhaul for compared to a good used 727, If I can find one close to Longview Texas?

Will any 727 bolt right into my Cherokee? Thanks in Advance

Nope, has to be an AMC bell housing 727.

You can overhaul yourself; it's not that hard and relatively cheap (probably cost about $400) but can take some time and patience.

You also might consider doing an AW4 swap. There are several folks on here that have done it and it gives you a strong 4 speed auto. I think transfer case wise is easy, too.
