Todd, I posted an ad(not mine) w/phone # in the 'for sale' section a week or so ago. The guy wanted $75 for one from a Chevy. I don't know anything about it and it's up in the Seattle area so shipping will $$$$$ but it may be worth a shot? I think the thread was '205 x-case' or something similar.

Thanks....Kim

Kim, most folks run ATF Dexron Type II, III after the conversion but you could still just use non-detergent 30w.

Thanks -joe and Todd,

I pulled the fill plug this afternoon on my QT. The oil smells just like 90 wt. I bought some ND 30 wt. .....gonna switch over to it tomorrow.

Thanks again for your help.

Regards,

Kim

I am able to get the TCL-1 fluid for $7.50 a quart. I also bought my chain for $128. It's the Borg-Warner chain so it is the good one. You can go to the parts store and get one cheaper but it will wear out faster. You can go online and get them from Lightlineofla.com. From what other people have posted these are very resonably priced. Pro on the q-trac is that it is alltime 4 wheel drive. The only thing that you can or have to do is lock the case in or shift from hi to lo gear. Con is that it has a chain that you have to replace. The aluminum case is really a non issue unless your chain broke from age and no fluid. The other thing that people don't like is that parts aren't readily available for it. But, how many cases out there are so easy to work on? Changing the chain is a no-brainer.
I like and prefer my q-trac cause I don't have to worry about getting out and locking my hubs or any of that other mess. Only down side is that you have to rotate your tires more frequently because it causes your front tires to wear out faster.

The 205 is an great transfer case. If you need a lower low range why not stack a 203 in front of it?

The following web site has some good information on the NP 205 as well as the 203/205 Doubler. http://www.offroaddesign.com/

Now if I could just figure out how to lift one of them up into my Jeep...naw...

Regards,

Kim

QT's recieved a bad name because of the unavailibilty of parts to rebuild the center differential and the constant noise they made usually from the wrong fluid being used, as far a the chain being the weak link - when your vehicle is put into an unbeatable bind something has to give, the chain was engineered to break because the chain is cheaper to replace than an axle or driveshaft, for a good price on chains check out Krage Motorsports - www.jeepdoc.com - I've been running my $89 chain with no problems. The CJ QT is the same as the Cherokee's QT. I should also say that I'm a certified mechanic and qualified transmission builder, I'm not affiliated with the JeepDoc in any way so my opinion is given with only good intentions
