Do you own a 73-76 FSJ? Can you help with a simple question?
OK it seems most people on this website are in this thread topic area. So hopefully there will be good feedback on this.
So my question is, when did firewall pads change from the early Kaiser black fiber pads with fiberglass mat between the backer board and firewall metal to the rubberized formed firewall pads like you would find in the 80's plus FSJ's.
My goal is to find out what year the pads changed. I make the firewall pad sets and have never known the year of changes. All it would involve is looking under your dash and then posting what you have. I have someone on this site that would like a new pad. And their rig is a 1974. Can anyone offer up any info here?
As always, thank you in advance.

Don't take this as absolute model year fact. I had a 73 J-4600 and it didn't have any type of interior firewall pad, just factory body color paint.

Well that helps narrow it down. Very interesting Joe that you did not have a pad on the rig. I never would have guessed.
I am making an assumption today after thinking about it that most mid 70's FSJ's would and should have the same penetrations through the firewall as the late 60's jeeps. I know the gas pedal style changed in there somewhere.
I have the go ahead to make a pad set for the 74 one of our members has, but am still curious to know what the mid 70's and even newer rigs had for pads and when. So the continued feedback is greatly appreciated.

My '73 has black card board with fuzzy/stringy/fiberglass like backing which was in it when I bought it in '88; so I assume it is stock. It is formed/molded for transitioning from floor to firewall and for the rear of engine hump.

Thanks Rod2. I wonder if it was the 80's when they went to the rubberized molded unit. I would just like to know what year the black pads with fiberglass stop fitting. I suppose there is no way to tell unless I have a rig to look at. Maybe I should start flagging FSJ drivers down.
I am still surprised some came without them.
Thanks for the feedback. I am still looking at this thread daily.
