Anyone else collect Hotwheels?
About 20 years ago I started at my current job and started travelling quite a bit. I would get bored in the evenings so I would start poking around in malls and ended up in toy stores. I would see Hotwheels of cars I like so I would buy them becuase... well, they're cars I like. Before long I had a bunch hanging in my cubicle. That turned into a mass on my office wall (and growing). I have 4 Matchbox in this pile (2 of them are Grand Wagoneers, one is a flatfender, and one is a Volvo), too.
Last week I found website that let me inventory my collection ( https://collecthw.com/). I didn't really consider myself a "Collector" because I just bought cars that I liked and only from the store on a shelf. I promised i would never pay more than $2 for one. Well, now that I have an inventory and valued them, I guess I am officially a collector. According to this website, I have 296 Hotwheels and according to that website they are worth $622, with the most valuable one being worth about $40 and 19 of them worth more that $5.
Anyone else a sucker for these things?

Doesn't Everyone?
Been a Hot Wheels addict since 68, when they first showed up on pegboard at the Thrifty's check-out stand.
Still have most of those, but not in original condition, of course, they were toys!
Most of my carded cars are in boxes, and most of my redlines are in vintage car cases.
Matchboxes, Johnny Lightnings, even a few Tootsietoys from 67.
A lot of my earliest cars were modded, one of my hobbies back then, and the tracks all went to the nephews,
and from there who knows. Still buy new ones that I like, and also older ones at the swap meets.
Not a hard core Red Line junkie, can't afford that, but when the price is right...
p.s. Thanks for the link, after I retire I will have time to inventory.

I have Matchbox and Johnny Lightning Wagoneers. The JL is an '81 Limited and pretty accurate, except the seats have headrests.
Just picked up a Volvo 240 wagon, need to find a good one of those!
Rang - is the matchbox wag in the red 1989+?
I would LOVE to get a larger Wagoneer - those ones that are like 6" long with steering wheels that turn the wheels / etc.

Awesome! The only reason I leave mine in the boxes is it makes it easier to hang/display them. It also made it easier to inventory them. I would love to see pictures of yours!

I have the JL one, too. its the little gold dude on the end of my shelf next to the white bug and the micro machines. I love that they did a pignose Wago!
Yep! That's one of them! There is the red on on the bottom of the small board and a black one on the left side of small board about half way up.
Have you seen one (larger Wagoneer)? I would pay for that, too!
*********************
I have heard a Hotwheels is worth a little more if it is messed up and in original card. Anyone know if that is true? I have 2 of them like that (one has a missing bumper, one has a poorly stamped wheel.

I collect only Jeeps. I have more matchbox than hotwheels, as matchbox seems to routinely come out with jeeps. Hotwheels rarely does.
I do also have several johnny lighting jeeps too. I buy them when I see them. Another company I recently found is greenlight. They have several jeeps as well. I have a couple other random brands and models, but nothing major.
My collection is 95-99% jeep. The rest is a handful of AMC javelins hotwheels came out with several years ago.

I do too - I collect hot rods and muscle cars and stuff I like. The error cars can be worth more sometimes, but not alot. I collected alot ofmine travelling around for work too - would hit up the walmarts when i went by. I still look in the small stores and drugstores when im in there - i found a roadrunner treasure hunt in a rite-aid once...... was there to buy a card!
I had alot of Majorette cars as a kid since they had "suspension" and opening doors. I got a Majorette cherokee chief in yellow at a yard sale once - its pretty cool.

Holy Shizzle! That's a lot of cars hanging there.
I don't collect them, but I have a bunch from when I was a kid. I got 2 of them funky cases (that split open, but can be rolled acrossed the floor like luggage cases for taking on a plane) full of them. Of coarse they're all used and some are well worn from my obsession of Demolition Derby's-lol kids...
My dad's got a couple of old cases(actual matchbox cases) full of old matchbox cars from when he was a kid. Ranging from the 60's-70's.
I dont really think much of any of them. They all just sit in a closet. Couldnt even tell ya what I got.

What?
HELL NO!
I already have to many things I "collect" and not enough money to do it!
The wife says I have a flashlight fetish......she's not wrong.
Flashlights, knives, guns, vehicles.....you name it.
I guess those aren't "collectables" so much as just toys....

Hot Wheels sampler
Here are a few:
and if I did this right, the flickr album:
https://flic.kr/s/aHsmE7dBkB
Closed PB and all my photos are on the old computer. So, a few quick shots now and more
when I get my Flickr album loaded. My friend Dave and I spend way too much time at swap meets
looking for these, originals and later years, Matchbox, JL, whatever.
And yes, my wife Janna thinks I have more than enough. Jibberish to me...

I went to the Forney Museum of Transportation in Denver last weekend - was awesome. HUGE steam engines, and they even had an exhibit for American Cars of the 1980's. The also have 3 rooms dedicated to model cars - not one wag or J truck.
AMC was underrepresented, but they did have this cherry Eagle (which is my dream 'put around town' car).
And hey - I recognize those armrests!

came here because of rang-a-stangs hotwheels thread.
nice photos of the AMC car
those seats look comfortable
definitely a car you don't see much
heck you did not see them much when they were new,...
at least in central NC where AMC did not see well at all.
thanx for the post.

Every time I see one of those I want to build a lifted 4x4 car. My aunt just sold an opel wagon for a hundred bucks. Glad it went away. Despite being done with my build thread, I have my hands full.
I just gave 250ish matchbox and hotwheel jeeps to a friend. I kept the bigger tin models, like the tonka's and old import willys etc. It got to be a where do I display them and look how dusty they get thing.
My axial scorpion has a wrangler body on it. I don't mind rolling that one.
I can tell Rang is a fun guy to hang around.

I can vouch for that, meeting him in person on his trip to Washington is still a fond memory!

Well shoot... I had to dig up this old thread. Rang recently while cleaning out corners of the house that needed it, I found a vintage hotwheels case. It is a 12 place plastic mini case that has a date from 1969 on it. It is in pretty good shape and just needs cleaning. IF you want it, please PM me with your mailing address and I will send it to you. I promise not to breathe on it.
If you don't want it post up and I can mail it to someone who does. I really need to off load the tremendous amount of stuff around here. How did I accumulate so much krap?

Marc, I should have asked, but didn't know about this thread...just took a load of items to Salvation Army to donate, one of the items was a Hot Wheels Sizzlers Giant "O" racetrack set, sorry.

All is good! The case Al offered up will be perfect for the few I do have that are not in the card. I probably have 5-7 of them? I am not sure I would have had a place for a racetrack, as cool as it sounds.

Got your PM Marc! Just send an address. The case is in pretty good shape for an old relic. This is the best thing that could ever happen to it. I know you will appreciate it.
