friction disc hitting flywheel

78 Cherokee, 360, four speed T18-1B. I surfaced the flywheel and got a new friction disc. The problem is that the small rivets on the center hub (flywheel side of the disc) are hitting the inside edge of the flywheel. The disc wont sit flat on the flywheel surface. Its an 11 inch disc. Would a smaller disc possibly solve the problem?

Sounds like you have the wrong disc probably. but Is the flywheel within specs ? it's possible if it was taken down to low you could bottom the hub out in the pocket.

Thank you both for your replays. I got the disc from rock auto- Item number:
M-PACT 383348. After posting my question and a little investigation, I found the hub of the disc is too wide and hitting the sides. ( I compared it to the old) I do have the "flywheel side" towards the flywheel.
The flywheel does have enough metal left. At least 1/2 inch.
Nobody locally carries the disc. I ideas? What did you guys use?

If it's hitting the sides then it has to be the wrong disc. or the wrong flywheel.

Unless you know the history of your vehicle since new you never know what you're dealing with sometimes . is a Jeep flywheel the same as AMC car ? no doubt it would bolt to the crank but does it take a different clutch ? I don't know, but these are the sort of things I've run into more than once after Sam the shade tree mechanic did his magic for 40 years.

I like Center force clutches in my cars. I assume they make one for your application but if your pressure plate is good any standard disc should do.

Thank you for your reply. You make some good points. I am the second owner of the truck and the PO lives near by. I will ask him.
