Do you guys "seal" your air injection bolts?

I have to re-install the air injection tube on my passenger side manifold.
I have read:
a) some posts where folks have used copper crush washers to seal them but no specifics on size or where they were bought.
b) some posts where folks haven't used anything
c) some posts that use the Team Grand Wagoneer seals

I HATE EXHUAST LEAKS and have had them since I bought my rig. I really want them to go away. so:
1) If you used copper/Aluminum crush washers, where did you get them? I checked my local Home Depot and mom-n-pops hardware store but they had nothing. I checked Oreilly and they are like $3 for 2 of them (I need 6) and they are huge/would look silly.
2) I really don't want to order from TGW. Anyone else sell them?
3) who has installed the your bolts without seals and gone w/o leaks?
4) is there a gasket maker/sauce that I could use? They will only need to hold up for a couple thousand miles...

Don't know what size you need. My bike takes 14mm copper washers in a few places and I buy them on Amazon. Theres about 6 in a package?

keep in mind i am not much of a mechanic

but once i restored a 69 dodge charger

the person in charge of rebuilding the motor was a GM guy and very young,...

when i got the charger back, i cranked it and
water poured from the exhaust manifold bolts

seems the exhaust manifold bolt(s) on the 383
go into the water jackets,.....

we removed the bolts
dried the block threads and bolt threads and used the high heat Copper RTV silicone sealant.....it has been several years and it is still holding...

for good measure, i also dropped in the stop leak tablets,...
whatever did it, it has worked well...

yes there are or were thin washer like seals.
Lemme look to see if I have pictures. Pretty sure they come with a new tubes, and the old ones are generally OK to reuse.

Yes. This is the driver side so its only 6. Passenger side is 8 seals.

TBI allows removal of all useless emissions crap including air injection.

Grade 8 - 9/16” fine thread bolts didn’t/don’t leak 4 me.

None of my cars that originally had AIR systems had any kind of sealing washers on them. It seems like they just allowed the surfaces to crush into each other for a seal.

I used copper gaskets for sealing brake line fittings. Most auto parts stores have an assorted bin on them available or at least a catalog listing them by size and part number so they can be ordered.

Eventually the tubes will seal themselves with rust and carbon...

I seriously hate AIR though. More places for exhaust leaks and the pumps seem to die every year or two. I remove it from all my cars, but I understand that your local laws may not allow that.

Yep! I already have a set ready! I want to pass my next smog check (May I think) before I install my TBI. That way I'll have 2 years to get it running correctly before the smog Nazi's probe my truck again.

rgr. I hate it, too. Such a complex solution for such a simple problem. I'll be happy to sell all the pieces off of it when it comes off.

Must be other sources.
This company sells in bulk and says they're also used for spark plugs - or maybe that's just the size and used for O2 sensors or something.

I've not come across a spark plug that used a crush washer like that, but that doesn't mean anything.

I think I will order these aluminum crush washers. TGW wanted $19.99 for shipping $8 in washers! hahaha!!!!

That's ridiculous.
You know, I'm not too sure of this, but I think you can buy these types of washers at a hardware store. Heck, the local menards over here even has them.

I've checked my local Lowes, Home Depot, and the local Mom-n-pops HW store with no luck. I checked the hardware aisles, plumbing aisles, and ask the workers. There is an OSH up the hill but at this point, I would rather pay the $11 to Amazon to have them show up on my doorstep.

Just use regular bolts, they don’t check funtion just visual.
Inop air system won’t make ya fail smog if your cat is good.

The regular bolts will seal and prevent exhaust leaks unlike the hollow bolts used.
Both of mine had no issue passing smog w/ regular bolts and inop air system, before switching over to EFI and yanking.

That's a good point and didn't really think of it. BUT I think my cat is marginal. It's the original cat and I don't have much confidence in it so I give it all the help I can.

Both! I have to re-install my manifolds for smog (running headers now) so while they (my manifolds) are on my bench, I am fixing all my leaks. these bolts are just some of the leaks. 3 of 4 manifold studs are stripped by the previous owners so both sides leaked there. All 6 gaskets were blown out at the heads. I was missing a bolt that holds the manifolds on. There is a ginormous crack and weld blob on my y-pipe. No joke, this weld blob is the size of my finger and coated in carbon because it STILL leaks. I'll post a pic soon enough. it's almost as epic as Baby-wag's recent oil pan gasket trophy.

I removed and replaced with stock bolts and it sealed fine.
