In preparation for the trip

This year, I decided that it was time for a good going through on the GW. Yesterday was the rear brakes. Drums, shoes, wheel cylinders and spring kit. She got a couple of new tires last week. In the next couple of weeks, she's going to get the front axle worked on.... rotors, calpiers, pads, bearings, seals, axle u-joints, ball joints, tie rods and tie rod ends. Then an alignment and two more tires. Sometime around June will be all fluids before the drive.

What's on you list?

Man I wish I had such a detailed plan. I am still hoping that all will be well to get it going. I just cant wait to get out of school it takes up way too much of my time. Come May I will be very indepth with my work on the waggy. Like you: brakes, fluids, hopefully a radio and getting the bugs out of it to make it trail ready for the trip.

Finish engine swap and reassemble.
Other than that it has exactly zero miles on it since I got back last year

Oh, I might clean it out but probably will just use my leaf blower.

I don't have to, since you do!

Wow where to start? All new fluids, rear disk swap, cut and turn front axle "c's" so i can have a front driveshaft, put the body back together, paint, radiator, interior(not really needed) and probably a million other little things I'm missing. Oh and before I can do any of that I gotta get the shop finished! 111 days and counting....

I just took the Cherokee to the shop last week for the Chevy drivetrain swap.
I hope to get it up and running in the next 60 days so I can do some shake down trips on it before the long haul to CO.
It will have every nut and bolt tweaked and fluid changed long before the departure day.

Not too much to do.
New front tires and an alignment.
New shocks (the new springs lifted it more than I expected)
battery hold down... no idea what happened to mine but it is gone.
I need to put on some stops for the axles so they don't move 'up' too much.
Maybe a regular seat belt for the passenger. I have the 5 point harness but it is a little over kill most of the time. The wife is coming this year (cool!) so I need to make it comfortable for her.
Oh yeah, parking brake. Need to get that working for sure.

I wouldn't mind getting the back panels redone, I need to do something with the headliner and to finish hooking up the second battery.

I also have a water leak and some oil leaks but that's pretty much par for the course.

I haven't taken her out wheel'n since Ouray last year. The springs were so bad I just didn't want to risk it.

Hahaha, I wait until the last minute, fix a bunch of crap and hope I can get there by Wednesday evening. This panic mode makes it more rewarding when we do get there. I know I am not the only one that goes like this.

Don't know if Crom will make it this year, but it looks like we'll have the W250 ready. BB is planning on bringing up his ladies waggy so I should have a place to ride... maybe!

I'll be doing the 700R4 swap in the next week or two. I'll have time to get that dialed in.

I'm going to finally get around to putting the carpet kit into the truck. Hopefully, I'll get some better seats to go in place of the bench.

I need to rig up some kind of tow hooks for the front.

I'm probably going to do the fuel injection swap next month so I have enough time to get that dialed in.

I've taken a couple of 300-400 mile + round trips to sort things out. All went well until today when my left front tire/wheel separated from my Cherokee. It took a tour of the Walmart parking lot until a good soul chased it down for me. I don't trust the wheels any longer, so I'm going to order a new set.

My list:
new wheels completed 4/11
install digital dash completed 4/12
swap in my new T18/Dana 18
paint
swap axles from my 78 over to the 79
replace all steering system parts completed 5/21
install new interior
Ristow/Holley 580 CFM 4180 Installed 5/15

HECK! I'd better get busy... 3 months to go

I drug mine home from the farm last week.
The list:
Pull whole drive train.
Engine goes to the shop for honing. Most likely have them build the whole thing if their AMC Guru still works there.MPFI Edelbrock and AL.heads.
Transmission gets a home rebuild per GS Mikie video.
Quadra-trac gets replaced.... NOS Quadra-trac going in.
Rebuild a set of J20 axles with disc in rear. Install in J10.
Body will most likely keep the stock Honcho sheet metal for this trip although it will most likely get trimmed. Possible stepside transplant Ford style.
Would like to have all new brakelines run as well.
Install new master and brake booster.
Wheels and tires will most likely be taken off the 81 J20 for the trip. Unless all goes well then there will be new Swampers on 5 slot 16.5 AL. mags
Most parts are bought and here waiting for install. Just need the time.

Now in between all this the 81 J20 has to be roadable again, I'm down to repairing a busted brakeline and mounting the bed. Then that project goes on hold till August at least.Or if all goes bad for the Honcho I'll bring the 81 J20 if possible.

Tons of work that MUST be done here at the house also. Trying to put a huge dent in that this weekend and coming week.
