my goofy winch bumper idea

Forgive the cartoon type colors, I did that when drafting it to make the different pieces stand apart. Keeping the outer pieces pretty minimal to keep weight down some. The center bar will be 2" heavy wall (.250 probably) and come back far enough on the frame to be part of the mount. The outers will be smaller, 1 1/4 probably. The plate will be a combination of 1/4" and 3/16" with the winch plate 3/8" or 1/2".
The pink part is the basic front frame measurements.
Definitely NOT a final draft or anything, but it should be fairly close to what (shape) my bumper will look like when I get to it.

front view. AMC on the left, JEEP on the right brace, and pretty sure you can read the middle. The brush guard will be bent to mach the hood lines, they are a little off here, but you get the idea.

My quickie boxy (ugly) front clip, and from slightly above to give an idea how tight it sits, and the angles of the bars.

And the grill will be changed out so the winch can sit back farther, but not as much as it looks in that pic. I didnt take the time to angle the grill piece back in my sketch. I will leave about 3-4" between the radiator and the winch, but thats it.

So, any suggested changes for when I do a final draft?

Jim

Looks pretty good to me. Would be real interested in seeing what it would look like in real life.

Love it! What would you charge to build?

If my overtime at work kicks back in fast and holds, maybe next fall.
I have to get the rest of my drive line together first, (doubler kit is on the way) so I can drive it to places to work on it. Also need to get a tube bender and such.

Actually, thought had crossed my mind about seeing if anyone would be interested in a partial kit. Something with just the pre-bent tubes and main braces, and a cut list/blueprint for the plate steel. Its mostly flat pieces other than the 2 main tube mount/braces (purple). Plus that would allow people to customize a bit as well.
I always keep notes when I build something like this, so I should be able to make another fairly easy afterwords.
We'll just have to see when I get that far.
If I do that, it will be around this time next year though (funds permitting). I would have to see what the tubing runs before figuring a price.

Glad you guys like it.

Oh, forgot to ask...............
I have two options on the AMC/JEEP/CHEROKEE script....
1) cut them all the way through, I doubt it would weaken it enough to worry about.
2) only half way through, and paint the lettering a contrasting color.
I guess there is a third option
3) all the way on the tops, and half on the CHEROKEE

Opinions???

Jim

Cut the letters from another plate and weld to it, in my opinion, would look best. And no worries of structural loss.

Kinda funny you mentioned that after I realized what bumper you are talking about. Had to go look it up. You are right, and I am busted .
I saved that pic (and many others) in my ideas file I used to come up with my design. Thats where I got the idea for the bars following the hood line. Hope you dont mind my following your lead.

The hoop design looks a lot like this bumper.

I also found these pictures on my computer I saved. I do not know who it is, but I saved the pics cause I kinda liked the bumper. The tube part is a little diffrent.

Also saved this pic of a baby jeep. The tubes on it look close to like your drawing.

I really like the design. It looks beefy like a stinger but without the 3ft of steel cliff hanging off the front.

Great concept, good luck with it.

The names on the front, I would cut the AMC and JEEP all the way through and then weld on raised lettering for the Cherokee emblem.

Hoopster

Those are some good looking hoops.
I've been thinking about upgrading mine to round tubing, and these are just the look I was searching for.

I like the Cherokee name on the front but not the AMC or Jeep. It looks too busy for my tastes. The design looks solid though.
