You may want to try an XJ forum, like NAXJA.com

AX-15 would be a better trans. for your 360. They are stronger than the aw4's as they were used in all xj's with the straight six. AW4's were only used in the 4 cyl. xj's and wranglers.

AW4's were used behind most 4.0s in XJs and have a great reputation in those applications.

I've had 2 XJ's 4.0 w/AW4, still have one(96). Excellent AT.

You're probably thinking about the AX-5 5 speed used behind the 2.5L, which is a much weaker trans than the AX-15.
The AX-15, and later NV3550, are both great transmissions, if you want a 5 speed.
Honestly, though, neither of those manuals likely come anywhere near what the AW4 can handle. The AW4 is based on the same trans that was in the twin-turbo'd Supra. I've seen a lot of people pushing huge horsepower numbers with built-up stock autos. Regardless of what type of abuse you want to call that, no AX-15 would ever survive.

Pretty sure the eBay seller determines the shipping charges, not eBay itself.
RockAuto has it for less. Put it in your cart and see what the shipping will be.

How many XJs were sold in Australia? I expect quite a few. Someone local to you may have it for sale. Search or ask at your local parts store. "Bishko."

I have put an 93 Aw4/231 behind a 360 a couple years ago. It’s not as hard as you’d think. If you need some help let me know.

I like the transmission. I did a post on here about it. It was fine with the 3.31s but 3.73 gears would be optimal. Cruises beautifully. No adapters needed.

Do a google search for “AW4 swap complete” under IFSJA.

80limited brings up a good point about axle gearing. Don't know what rig you're considering swapping the AW4 into or your goals doing so. If you're running stock 2.73 or 3.31's the trans will still work but if you're expecting any benefit from 4th gear(OD) you won't see it except maybe(?) on absolutely flat ground. Any hills/grades it'll shift back down into 3rd to maintain speed and power. I wouldn't consider an OD trans with anything higher than 3.54 gears. Even my XJ's with stock 3.54's hunt a on even slight short up hill stretches. You can live with it but if your shooting for better mpgs from an OD trans 4th gear...don't expect it with too high of axle gearing.

Joe,
What RPMs do your XJs turn at 65MPH? Mine has 30in tires and with the AW4 and 3.55 gears, it should turn about 1950RPM, yet it's at 1500. I wonder if my tach is off...
Thanks

Gee Mikel I dunno. It's prolly been a year since I went that fast. I'm a good 2-3 hrs from the nearest interstate but I gotta make run to Colville in E.WA in a few days so I'll try to remember to make a note and let ya know when I get back.
