It's a pretty easy fix if you can weld and do a little body work, and you don't need it back to stock. Somebody must have really wanted that old AM/FM radio out?

I needed to get away from the old style radio and go to a modern single DIN. And I didn't need the ashtray or the clock. There are lots of possible ways to configure things if you can weld a little.

My dash renovation starts on post #328:

Is it possible for you to maybe find a new dash at a junkyard? Thats if you want the original look if not weld it like the prev poster said.

Yes, the easiest thing would be to swap in a new dash.

I would defer from swapping the dash as a last resort as it is a PITA to remove and the rest of this dash is in descent shape. I can weld and fabricated at a descent level, this is beyond anything i've tried though....

That said, Brad, I like the work you did on your radio/CB. Looks great!

Well, I would think you'll have to pull it either way. Or have alot of welding blankets.

Hey stephen, I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a donor vehicle, however I can get the most from a '80 to '85 in case you run into someting...

That does look bad. I don't see why you don't build a plate you could bolt or self tapping screw in. Why does it have to be welded? Take a piece of 1/8 inch plate steel or aluminum & cut a pattern with some cardboard & them overlay it on the plate draw out your pattern onto the plate. Then cut it out & mount the plate with bilts or screws. I've seen tons done like that to put guages there. Radios would work the same. That is a mess.

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

Here is what I did to my old Cherokee.

I shouldn't have sold it.

Just what sehill says.

Swapping a dash is a lot of work. A lot.

Thanks.

I think I used .063 2024 aluminum. A tan dash will be easier to pant match.

If you don't need the gauges like his, it makes a dandy switch panel as well, and dump the old ash tray.
