Pictures from the Summit of Mt. Mitchell, NC
So, we went camping the weekend before last near Mt. Mitchell, NC (the highest peak east of the Mississippi River) and we had a blast. We took the "Family Wagon" on the trip even though the starter was going bad...no issues though - thankfully.
Half of our group decided to take the 6 mile hike from our campsite to the summit of Mt. Mitchell...we decided to drive the wagon to the top instead. As luck would have it, our "hikers" came out of the woods at the exact same time that we pulled up in the Wagoneer. You should have seen how many people we had crammed into the wagon on the way back to camp...3 up front, 3 in the back, and another 2 in the cargo area.
The new engine from GES (Golen Engine Service) performed awesome. My brakes did start smoking on the way back down the mountain, so I downshifted and everything went fine from then on. Anyways, here are some pics of our first Jeep adventure that didnt involve tow-trucks and rental cars
Oh, and in case you were wondering, we got just over 11 MPG while tooling around in the mountains, and a whopping 18 MPG on I-40 on the way back home.

Yep, brand new engine (about 500 miles on it), stock intake and 2BBL carb...no air pump or cat though.

Ahhh, Mt. Mitchell. I've been there on several occassions and one day I want to camp there. I guess you saw the 10 or so sights about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up, right close to one of the gates I believe? How chilly was it up there? South GA heat is pretty rough and I love to go up there in the middle of the summer and have nice cool weather to get refreshed.
The restaurant isn't half bad too. Nice walking path from the top down to the restaurant if you haven't tried that before.
Where did you go camping? I'm always looking for some good spots along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

We sometimes go up to the Joyce Kilmer WMA. If you go at the right time the whole mountaintop is full of blueberries. It seems years ago there was a fire that burned everything of the top. The blueberry bushes came back and have covered the whole mountainside up. The kids love it. We go in to the wilderness area and set up a camp and then do hikes out from it for a couple of days.

Nice pictures! I miss that country sometimes...
My GW looked like that back when I lived in Charlotte. It was all down hill in the "pretty" department after the lift went on.

Another good camping place is a semi private junkyard called Jake's.Real close to the parkway and 80 South.Nice tent area near the creek or in the middle of the yard, surounded by FSJ's.Small trailers can be brought in as well.Just need a 24 hour notice if possible. You can hear the wolfs bay at night and wake up to the smell of cornite if you like.
