Thanks! the little sleeve on the intermediate cable i'm guessing is to isolate the cable from the exhaust. there's a spot where it wants to press up against the pipe.

ah, it's the intermediate cable that is broken....
ah, it's the intermediate cable that is broken. the end that goes to the passenger side is broken off. the two rear cables are intact.
