Is there a possibility your mechanic doesn't know that it's an AMC 360, not a Chrysler 360. This is a common mistake, though I would hope a mechanic would know the difference.

It's been something like 10 years since I did it. What I remember was using 1986 3/4ton Suburban 4X4 calipers and pads. Bolted right on.

The Grand Wagoneers with the factory tow package came with trans coolers and 3.31 gears. The standard did not have an trans cooler and 2.73 gears.

Packing the bearings is really not a big deal, just a big mess, at least when ever I do it lol. You might be able to find someone to turn the rotors on the truck too, not sure if anyone still does...

I had problems with the axle hitting the Y-pipe on my 90GW after I had the exhaust replaced from the manifolds back. The Y-pipe has to run very tight to the engine/ oil pan to stay out of the way....

My guess is a 455 would tear up a 700R4 in pretty short order. You would really need a 4L80E, which I don't think comes in a BOP pattern. A turbo 400 would handle a 455 nicely though.
