How would it be any different than using an 8 inch wheel with 4 inch backspacing (what I ended up putting on there) versus a 5.5 inch Backspacing with 1.25 inch spacers?

I can't imagine, because it doesn't look like American Racing or Mickey Thompson make anything less than 3.5 inch backspacing in a 15. Unless going from a 7 to an 8 inch wheel appears that much...

The "roller skate" look isn't my favorite on my wife's Wagoneer. I'd like a little wider track, however it's not as easy to put on more backspacing wheels, as the stock ones are already 3.5ish on a 7...

Tailgate window catches on the door...

When fully raised, the bottom channel (on the window itself) catches the tailgate at the inside right corner, where the inner wipe attaches. It's about 3/8 short of completely closing on the right...

You could always go with an XJ/ZJ/TJ shifter and swap to the cable linkage. Be pretty easy to adapt tunnel cover. Would need to put a square hole in the firewall to route it down and around too....
