Thanks for the input.

I will not be keeping it. I would guess I could sell it as is for $5k pretty easily. I have the original engine for it, which I could simply re-ring and stick in there and push it to the $10k+ range,...

Giving up on my '90 GW.

I once loved my 1990 GW, but I don't think it ever gave a Expletive Deleted!Expletive Deleted!Expletive Deleted!Expletive Deleted! about me. I've invested more dollars than I care to tally (though I...

Yep, 3 and 5 are middle two, driver. And yeah, as Baby Wag said, I emoved the rockers so all valves are closed.

S&J told me to go ahead and pull the heads and see what's under there. I have to...

I dropped off a sample of the fuel with a local refinery. It tested 89.7 mean octane. Also on spec with everything else they tested for, ie; distillates, oxygenates, clarity.

Update

Picked up the HF camera; it doesn't fit in a spark plug hole unfortunately. I called S&J, they asked me not to remove the heads yet so I didn't. They told me to test it with 80psi of air. I removed...

Good ideas. I plan to take a sample of the fuel to a local refinery for full analysis ASAP. If it's not bad gas and I destroyed my motor, I really need to identify the cause. I understand that the...

I haven't done anything yet. Decided I should probably drain and replace that fuel before taking things apart. I doubt that will fix it but I don't want the bad gas in there anyway, assuming that's...

I have not. I will talk to them and meant to call today. But I am confident that they gave me a good product and I screwed it up. I'm not even sure what to ask them about anymore, I've got you guys...

Thanks guys! And thanks for the input on the KB pistons, Ristow. This is such a valuable forum for me.

So now comparing all of these costs with the LT1 and LS1 options. Lots of benefits to the swap,...

Thanks Joe. Yeah, definitely don't want to skimp on anything. You're right; I'm in way too deep at this point. I know I called the Summit carb a cheapie, but I don't really look at it as skimping. If...

I will skip the comp test.

When ordering pistons, which I'll likely do tomorrow, is it worth the $600 to go with forged? No forced induction or NOX planned. Actually going to sell it once I'm satisfied it's 100% cured.

I'll...

The block came with cast pistons. I did fill up right before everything started going haywire. And as soon as I started the climb I started hearing the detonation (knocking). I'm thinking that since...

Thanks for your input guys

Thanks to all of you for responding. I'll plan a rebuild. Couple of follow-up questions:

Do you think this may have been caused by a bad ignition module in the HEI throwing my timing way off?

Is it...

Spark plugs closed! Help!!!

I have a slightly modded GW and now have a big problem. The engine is a S&J long block with an RV cam. Stock intake. Long tube headers with air. HEI ignition. I had Bosch double platinum plugs in and...

Going to sell my GW.

I decided to sell my 1990 GW. I have poured a ton of time and money into it. Over $20k anyway. One thing I haven't done is replace the wood grain, I keep meaning to, I just haven't done it, I have...

Drivability really.

Drivability is my true motivation here, Joe. I'd like to eliminate my Ram 2500, I don't have enough parking spots and it will save insurance, tags and maintenance on that. If the wagon only gets 14...

Thanks to all of you for your input!

To clarify, I don't want to change out my Dana 44s, I'm cool with new ring and pinions though. Tires are stock size now, but I'd like to go to 32s. Larger than that is just not my style. The wagon...

Powertrain swap

I like the wagon a lot, but I think I'd love it if were fuel injected and had overdrive. So looking at replacing the transmission with an overdrive unit, adding adapters and adding fuel injection....

Great Movie too!

The wagon has as a ton of screen time in this movie (at least a dozen scenes) and it's discussed a couple of times too. Good looking, restored GW. I doubt any movie has ever featured one more than...

Starter relay voltage drop.

My battery connection on my fender well mounted starter relay reads 12.6 volts, the switched output though only reads 10.6 volts. I would think this is abnormal. Swapped out the relay with my spare...

Same

I mounted mine here as well, there was a hole already there that made this most convenient and still easy to access. I no longer run them otherwise I'd send a pic.

Would under-tightened belts not make noise?

This may be my problem too! Is it common for under-tightened to slip without squeeling? I do have some throw in mine but they make no noise. I assumed they were tight enough.
