I can tell you that with my Javelin I had a 3 speed auto with a 2.87 rear end and a 304 and it was pretty boring and slow. I swapped in a AW4 and 3.54 rear end which made the final drive ratio 2.79...

The flex plate and starter for the 4L and AW4 is a direct bolt up to any of the AMC V8 engine and bell housing. The solenoid is on the the 4L starter so, you will have to wire it up as such.

I use NGK FR5 Stock No. 7373 on all of the AMC...

I use NGK FR5 Stock No. 7373 on all of the AMC engines that I build. They have a 5/8" hex which makes them easier to install and they made a big difference on the dyno.
